a new doll…I will talk a bit more about them next week…for now a blurry sneak peak

Well, there are some big changes on the horizon.
The Boy and I are temporarily moving to Los Angeles.
For two months. December & January.
He is working with a music editor (he helps the music that the composer creates fit in the scenes of the movie) and everthing is almost done. The director and all the producers are in la, the composer was in nyc, and so that is why they have been working out here until the end. I had already been planning on leaving my job (no plans beyond that though). And it was going to be so hard to be apart for two months, so we are all (trixie included) going to hop a plane in december and hopefully miss out on some of the northeast weather. I can leave the scarves in New York.

The Boy and I have been tossing around the idea of moving to la (there is more work for him in la, he has contacts in nyc) so this opportunity could not come at a more perfect time. I am nervous and exited at the same time. I can’t believe it is only a little over a month away. I guess for me it is going to be like a long vacation. The job is supposed to finish up in mid-january, so we may have a couple weeks of vacation tacked onto the end of the ‘trip’.

I don’t want to throw paint around in a sublet. Especially the clean and white sublet that we are getting. (I am really going to miss my painting a week, but I am going to continue until we leave, so there is still at least four more paintings on the way.)
I want, I really need a project when I am in la. I think I have the perfect one.  I love the commissioned word paintings that Catia Chien does. My idea is to ink and/or paint 30 words.  I have some pieces of board gessoed and I’ll bring some ink and gouache.  The work will be much smaller than I have been working. (the friday paintings have been around 24” x 36” & the boards are around 4” x 6”) I am thinking that will be a great change and a challenge at the same time. Work on a small ‘canvas’ and with a different medium. I am excited. I need your help. What I would love is thirty words.  I am not sure if I have 30 readers, but for now I will hope and just ask for one word per person. (If it looks like I wont be meeting my goal, I’ll ask for more than one word per person) I need some time with the words that is why I am asking early. To have time for the words to start to live in my head. Then I will illustrate fifteen words in December and fifteen words in January. To sweeten the pot the Boy will draw three names from the word suggestions and those three people will get a little prize. Thanks in advance for your help.

Close up of the girl and an elephant's eye.

::a moment…
A boy was sitting on the subway next to his father talking about halloween, his costume, and his grand plans for the day. His excitment was pulsing, he was literally wiggling around. His words came out like the mouth of a bottleneck, his excitment tumbling and rushing over each other until he got to the culmination of his excitment - mucho y mucho candy…

My first cd from Ky's cd swap came and I can't even begin to say what an amazing job Leslie did. The packaging…the songs…and the sweet note on the outside - 'handle with a whole bunch of care'. Thank you Leslie.

Have a great weekend.

photocrawl

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Again with the carousel horses…these colors were more candy than the moodiness of the Dumbo horses.  But I love them. I love the pull of childhood. I can remember when I was a girl riding a carousel where you could reach for the ring. I don't remember where it was, other than I was with the dad and I the carousel was inside. I can't remember if I could ever grab the ring, but I remember the excitement of trying.  The reach for something just beyond my hand, so that you have to lean into it, you have to commit. I think that sums up my personality. I love the reach, the push beyond my limits. The knowledge that I can press on a little farther.

This was a photocrawl with Anne, Greg and Daphne. It was cold and cheery and lovely to hang out. Again I loved how even though we all walked together, we all have totally and completely different viewpoints. Our eyes would gravitate toward different angles, different objects, different framing…love that there is room for everyone, everyone's views and talents. It makes me really excited.
My film is still being developed and even though I had three cameras (& a fourth in my backpack whose battery died) one of my rolls of film and I had a bit of a disagreement and unfortunately the film won. The other rolls came from the holga…so it is anyone's guess what will happen there.

friday (sketch)

Friday, October 20th, 2006

For the past three weeks we have been working on a floor piece for a dance company and it has been a life sucking project…too big, and too much the same color over and over again (and over a couple more times).  It is intense…so I haven’t been strong enough to create something.  But I did do a couple of sketches, circus sketches. (Amanda Davis’s book is still haunting me.)  Maybe today I will be able to get that painting started.  It will be a melding of the two sketches, the top girl and the bottom elephant…

I was super mail girl yesterday, so if you are expecting a package form me it is on the way.  Even if you aren’t expecting a package – it hopefully will arrive this weekend. I mailed long (way too long) over due painting, cd swaps (a day late), surprise gifts and surprise paintings. But all that mail meant that I went to a postal office three times yesterday and I feel fabulous. A slight weight is off my shoulders.  I still have some projects to finish and mail to send but the bulk of it is out in the world winging its way to loved ones and friends.

Lastly tomorrow is Anne & I are having our photocrawl at coney island.  Coney Island closes down after the end of the month, so it should be open, but deserted. If you are in the city and think you may want to play we will be meeting at 9am and you can just leave a comment or email me (wendyATgreengirlartDOTcom ) and I’ll get you the where info. (so we can know how many people to expect….)

::a moment…
Last night I watched an old woman and her blue eyes husky walking together, or rather shuffling down the street. I thought it was quite magical, like they were a piece of each other, growing old together…

all about mav

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

If for some reason you are living under a rock and don't know how I love port2port press cards you are in for a treat.
mav did a lovely limited edition art set for the design sponge store.
Her small details are as beautiful as the cards themselves.
A seperate card with the number stamped.

The black on the metallic colors is quite lovely.
knowing that she hand pressed all of the cards.
so much work behind the beauty.
I am constantly thrilled by what comes out of mav's studio.
simply exquisite.

I think my favorite piece in the #1 card.
But really if you haven't orderd cards from the design sponge store you should.
As soon as they are gone you wont have anymore chances and these little pieces of ART are quite breathaking.
(and the price is a steal!)

Even the glassen envelope is signed.
Beautiful work mav.
