wings (approx 5" x 6")
acrylic on board

mav gave me this word. I love wings, one day I think I think I'd like to have some little wing tattoos.

I have some fun news. I took my portfolio to a gallery this week and I am going to be in an art party show this saturday. As in the day after tomorrow…so excited. If you are in la…it is going to be a huge cannibal flower group show at infusion gallery in downtown la (719 south spring steet) - doors open at 9:30pm.

**oh, it is going to be this painting**

some faces

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I figured out something good to do when I get sucked into watching tv….sketching faces. No matter what, they always seem to be a little on the sad side.

a couple of words are in the pipeline….
this guy's website is awesome
{so full of tricks and treats - love the reason for the commission}
don't forget to drag and drop the bear on the upper right hand side of the page

car robot II
16" x 16"

This little guy was a commission for my photographer friend jami {i love her polaroids of the day}. She bid on a painting I donated to a fundraiser and lost, so I told her that I would paint another…about a year later here it is! I love painting robots, even if they are sort of 'in' right now. I don't feel the same pressure; or rather I don't put the same pressure on myself as I do when I am painting a girl. It really felt awesome to be painting though. I think I was a little afraid to start again. A little afraid that somehow los angeles wouldn't let me paint, silly I know.

Here are some flowers for you weekend. I am off to see some of art this weekend {from one of my favorite comic book guys scott morse} & get some ice cream at a soda fountain.
Any fun plans for the weekend?

honey (approx 4" x 5")
gouache on board

Jenifer gave me this word - honey…
I love all of jenifer's creations…they sparkle and her tiny teapots are like little treasures. You can find her working a lot, and also on her blog

when I am feeling sad I feel like I am walking through honey. Everything is slow moving and has a bit of a haze…so the girl in a honey jar. But here is some sun.

friday I will be back with a painting………..!

grow (approx 4" x 5")
gouache and ink on board

shanna gave me this word - grow.
I have a list just typed out with the words {notes beside some - ideas that are doing a whirligig in my head} and I have forgotten who might have given me a certain word {but I remembered shanna's}. I kept on thinking tress, probably has much to do with her blog & business name…two trees.

This was actually a recreation out of my sketchbook…me talking about growing into living in this new city. I thought it fit.

Here is my new painting 'studio':

the boy put down some outdoor carpet, so I can throw the paint around…and I love that I can paint in winter in my bare feet.

trixie always stays close when I paint on the balcony, she just sits and watches me through the glass and blinds.

probably one of the best things is my view…looking up, or looking out:

little details

breads from the breadbar…when I wrap them in the morning they are so soft…I want to eat it all…I think know bread might be one of my down falls.

I found this green shirt in the bottom of my drawer this morning. I guess it is a good thing that I needed to do laundry. it might make an appearance again for a st. patrick's day drinking marathon.

first ticket of the day…I love the ticket punch. I think because of all the restaurants that I have worked; we never had a ticket punch.

you would think that I would have some photos of the cheese since that is were I work, but they never seem to turn out. Something about the light and the camera makes the cheese look unappetizing. I think it is also because we wrap them in cellophane…they will never look as beautiful as this

{I have been painting…you don't know how happy that makes me…words and more on the way!}

we {the boy and I – not a royal we} were taken to play some golf with a witty & wicked wonderful friend. We didn't keep score, but we didn't hold anyone up on the course, {considering two of the four players hadn't ever picked up clubs and they other two players hadn't played for way too many years} I think we did alright. Although I was pretty scared when we started with everyone watching you at the first hole. But the company was to great and the day was too perfect to stay scared.

union station

Monday, March 12th, 2007

I feel like california is a color film place. Where as new york city was a black and white film place. Maybe it is the sky…there is so much more sky to see here. Or maybe the black and white covered up some of the dirt and grime of new york city. It hid her flaws better. I am sort of partial to black and white, I think because I dream in black and white. I have to process more things quickly in color. Change the way I look through the viewfinder. But Union Station…lends itself to black and white. These were taken after seeing my brother off on the surf rider train.

tangible

Monday, March 5th, 2007

My parents made an unexpected trip down this past weekend…a visit to drop off some furniture.
One piece that I have loved since I was a child.
A McDougall kitchen cabinet.

Oh how I love you bread drawer,

you built in flour sifter,
you pull out enamel kneading table,
and you roll down storage area…

The cabinet has so many lovely small details. Wire baskets, spice containers, the hardware. I love the utilitarian-ness of it all. It just functions so well even after 100 years. It is wild to think that I have something in my house over 100 years old. A real and tangible piece of history.

{the crane is for a project I am flirting with right now…}

night reading

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Having trouble sleeping again, but I can find beautiful things on the web like ben tour, {i wish there was more to his site - but there is an interview here} who is having a show in town that opens tomorrow. I love his colors, they are quite unexpected, {for me} but they work so beautifully.

Speaking of beautiful…mav has her Idea Project, which is thoughtful and quite and powerful all at the same time.
