chirp {approx 4" x 3"}
acrylic on board

greg gave me two words. chirp and crumbly. I thought it would be fun to use both or 'chirp' the crumbly as it was.

This is a beautiful slideshow…simple but really amazing.

hirsute {approx 4" x 3"}
acrylic on board

stephaine lynn gave me this word…her boy's favorite word.

hir·sute  (hûrst, hîr-, hr-st)
covered with hair; hairy.

The first thing I thought of for this word was a bear…but my first sketches were of a polar bear. Like the polar bear in the fairy tale east of the sun, west of the moon {you can see some great polar bears here…with lights no less!}

after the dancing bear I did for the circus series it was settled in my mind that I would do a circus bear instead.

don't forget to tell all your friends about the sweets party on june 11th!

***update: I am looking for someone that might still have an old selvedge issue. I can't seem to find mine. It is issue 12, the photo on the cover is twins in front of patterned wallpaper. If you have it and could scan some images that would be fantastic. you can email me at greengirlart@gmail.com. thanks***

cicus came to town

Monday, May 21st, 2007

well not really the circus,
but almost good enough.
a small little carnival of rides and games.
they just showed up and started setting up on wednesday
{I was on my way to one of the new jobs and I so didn't want to go. I wanted to stay and take photos of the set up. I saw bumble bee carts just sitting in the park}
friday night the rides started…monday morning there was no sign of them.
Like the traveling circus of the past.
The carnival workers especially intrigue me.
I wonder if it is a life they choose,
or if life chooses it for them,
or if they were born into this life on the fringe.
I wonder.
The sparkly lights disguise it…

On a completely different note…
I was thinking that we need another virtual blog party.
Like Risa's tea party.
I am thinking a sweets party.
cupcakes, pastries, root beer floats, sundaes…
whatever floats your sweet tooth.
monday june 11th starts at 11am pst. {or earlier, because it is never to early for sweets}
tell all your friends.
the more the merrier.

{i'll be back on wednesday with a word painting}

coffee & music

Monday, May 14th, 2007

I am starting some new money job gigs this week and I am going to take a little break until I figure out my time. How much I have and all, but first I thought I would leave you with a little photo story about trixie waiting for her morning coffee {or rather waiting with me for my morning coffee}.

And since I wont be around for a bit I thought I'd leave you with some freakin' amazing take away videos. {my favs right now are: arcade fire in an elvator no less & grizzy bear just walking down the street - it is the second video on the page.} My musican, the Boy turned me on to the site.

finally the kettle is on

don't know if I can make it though

the waiting…

the endless w a i t.

may your water always boil fast…

have a fabulous monday & a great week, see you on the flipside.

beds…

Friday, May 11th, 2007

there is a mini carnival going up in the park across the street for the weekend. I have been taking lots of photos…maybe I'll have some fun things to show you next week.
have a fabulous weekend
{more beds here}

sea foam

Monday, May 7th, 2007

a couple more huntington beach photos…sea foam {probably one of my most favorite things} & some surfers swimming out to compete.
have a great monday.

quiet Approx 5" x 3"
acrylic on board

when I made my list of words I just listed the words without reference to the names, so the word could tell me how to paint. Some of them I do know who had given the word but most of the words I have left myself in the dark.

Shari had just mentioned that she was looking forward to her word as I was working out quiet.
{I went back to the post to find out what word she had given…and low and behold it was quiet}
I think it goes well with Shari's way of looking at the everyday moments and seeing the beauty in them.
A quiet moment at the end of the day.
I am looking forward to a quiet weekend…

I stretched some canvases this week, so I have four pieces prepped for working. I love the tale end of gessoing a stretched piece of canvas as it becomes more taunt…it hums a little in those final brushstrokes, a bit like a drum.

barely

barely
20" x 10"

I am also going to do a larger full body version of the painting…but I wanted to wet my chops with something smaller.

Here is a close-up:
