my painting sold
& went to the best home
a friend's home.
i spent the night with amazing friends
my new la crew is pretty awe-inspiring.
thank you all so much.

I am going to be missing in action for about a week. I have a friend coming down and we are going to get some time away. I can't wait. A trip up to slo.
But I will leave you with the magic of the venice canals. briana took me there a couple weeks ago. what an amazing place. it’s like you step into another world. it was like i had taken a deep breath and the world slid back in time for the duration of our walk.

a place where you can row down the canal with your girl

where cats & ducks live side by side

{there is a black cat further down the sidewalk}

where cats nap is the cutest of chairs, and little flower petals shower down.

have a great week, i'll see you on the flip side.

tomorrow

i will be at the The Venice Contemporary Gallery.
The opening is from 7pm to 11pm.
But tonight i am going to wait in line to get the final harry potter book,
so i might be a little book drunk tomorrow night.

Here is a piece in progress:

'book realized' in progress with 'book' and my feet

i changed her expression a bit & colors, but mostly it stayed the same.
{besides getting much larger that is}
i hope everyone has a weekend filled with good books.

desire
acrylic on board
approx 4.5" x 6"
{coming down to the home stretch with these words}

lisa’s word.
lisa is back from her trip to japan {she even did a little update on her blog}. Can’t wait to hear about it!

The idea that cupcakes desire tea, happened quite by accident. I was sketching things…tea & cupcakes. I wanted to do something fun, something with humor. I tend to go melancholy…so I wanted bright things for desire. Like sugar. and cupcakes are kind of the epitome of sugar. Plus they always look so cute. So back to the sketching…I wrote the word desire and then above it I wrote cupcakes & below tea. Then I happened to look at it:

cupcake
desire
tea.

then I thought:

cupcake's
desire
tea

And the idea just went from there. The cupcakes…the tea…the pink, and there you have word 19.

On Saturday the 21st I will be at The Venice Contemporary Gallery with this painting if anyone wants to come by and say hey! The opening is from 7pm to 11pm.

got to see ann's ships in person. Ever since I saw them online I have wanted to see them live. They are more than I imagined. They are fantastic. My photos don't even come close to doing them justice, but here you are. It was so exciting to walk up to tinlark and see her fabulous pieces hanging in their windows.

this ghost ship was my favorite

while the boy was loving this amazingly detailed owl.

I also braved felt club to say hello to jenifer and jaime. Both whose work I love.
I don't know how jenifer did it after a long holiday in europe to make her way not just to california, but to have to drive in la.

I have some pieces of my own that I am really excited about, but I can't show you until I they are more complete. Hopefully wednesday.

have a good monday.

ephermal
3.5" x 5" acrylic on board

ky gave me this word.
after being quite stumped by it…i hit upon the idea of sea foam.one of my favorite things, always changing, quite ephemeral really.
i like the way it looks, but it was hard going getting there. it was pretty hard there in the middle, when everything was looking rather bleak and i wanted to just scrap it and start again.
the middle when things don’t look quite right, nothing is fitting, the idea is there but so not looking well. kind of like a little painting hangover, it is over the rush of the first coats of paint, but it is now later on. you’ve been drinking a lot, but forgot to eat. so everything is going straight to you head, but not making any sense. your words are slurred, and you keep stumbling, but i am glad i pushed through.
i did scrap another large piece that i have been trying to push through for ages. And the new base makes me really happy to look at, fresh and ready. i also got some scrap wood from my local hardware store; so i am going to try a piece on wood…kind of excited about that…because i would really love to play with resin, but one step at a time.

have a good weekend.

umm, i am

fires

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

i took black and white film to a beach party bonfire.
i didn't have any color 35mm in the house, but i think it worked.
it was a perfect night, i loved all the fire.
looking down the beach people surrounded by friends and their own little fire to tend.
i love how these two photos turned out.
the blackest black…with the bright of the fire.

hope your 4th is filled with laughter.

at the top of the flames you can see someone roasting marshmellows!
i think that is the only reason to camp - s'mores.
{i'll see you all on friday…have a good holiday i will be working & hopefully painting!}

beds

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

so good news and bad news {but really it is good news wrapped up in a bad news shell}. my painting didn't sell at cannibal flower, but they asked me to show it at the venice contemporary later this month! I think opening night is the 21st of July, but I will have to confirm that! also I have the worst schedule ever this week…so good thing I just picked up my film, because there might not be any paintings to show.

here are some beds from may. {I think I am finally caught up on developing film…there was a bit of a lag there for a second umm a month, but good news is that my photo place over the hill has a drop off right around the corner from my digs. which means I don't feel like I have to stock up on the rolls of film to make it worth while to drive over the hill!}
