running & running

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

So the anxious feeling has been kept at bay, by countless numbers of errands, mailing out last minute paintings, more errands, lots of work at work, doing my 'fall finale' friday painting…she has been giving me trouble, maps for the Boy, laundry, early gifts to a couple family members & work folks, but last night anxious wanted to be with me a little closer. She wanted me to be awake, so I played along, double checked all my lists, added some things. At least Trixie was happy she could come out to the living room check on me; go to the bedroom check on the Boy. She keeps us on a timetable. If it is getting past my bedtime, she'll call me to the room, and then she wakes me up in the morning. Purring into my face. It is not a bad way to wake, even if I didn't get much sleep.

chandelier at the new yorker hotel

One day I want to have a pie thrown in my face like the movies.  To come up all spluttering, wiping pie out of my eyes. I don’t know why, I just think it would be really fun. I like chocolate pie or lemon meringue…with a lot of whip cream.  Maybe one day. I was thinking about it because I was watching one of my favorite movies this weekend…singing in the rain.  How I love Donald O’Conner…to be able to move like that.  Plus Gene Kelly & Debbie Reynolds

I was lucky enough to meet up with a lovely hula girl a couple weeks ago when she was visiting new york.  Who was awesome even when I invited her over to lunch and then abandoned her for a bit while we trying to finish up a job.  What an amazing girl she is, and quite beautiful to boot!

At work we try and do the New York times crossword puzzle, but we do it by committee.  When someone gets stuck we pass it on to the next person. Every once in awhile we finish the easy Monday or Tuesday, but the people in Word Play not only finish, but finish in a matter of minutes. The amount of words that must fill their brains, it is pretty amazing to think about.

Treats in the mail from maditi…sometimes the new york mail is sooo slow.  It always amazes me, slow mail in the city that never sleeps. You can see more of maditi's lovely polaroids here. She is my polaroid hero. Thank you again!

I feel a little all over the place.  But I think I am ready for the move. In theory, everything is ready. I am not sure if we are really ready, but I love the idea of wintering in the city of angels and getting to hang out with all the la kids! good times.

This time I rode…my last carousel in nyc, the one in central park…I'll have to find some in la.

carousel love

Monday, November 13th, 2006

Again with the carousel…got to say again that I love them.  This time it was the carousel in Bryant park & again with abee

This is probably the last time meeting up before I go west.  I figured another carousel would be a great trifecta for us.

I have both a lot and not so much to do to get ready.  I think a lot of it is in my brain.  I am excited about the move thought.

I did a late apply for the bazaar bizarre in los angeles. So if you are in la on the 16th of December, I'll be there with some birds. It means the last go around for the penguins. I wanted to make it to 50, but the fabric ended at 44.  So that is it.  All the penguins I have are in boxes getting ready to wing their way across the country.  Soon after followed by me.

Again with the carousel horses…these colors were more candy than the moodiness of the Dumbo horses.  But I love them. I love the pull of childhood. I can remember when I was a girl riding a carousel where you could reach for the ring. I don't remember where it was, other than I was with the dad and I the carousel was inside. I can't remember if I could ever grab the ring, but I remember the excitement of trying.  The reach for something just beyond my hand, so that you have to lean into it, you have to commit. I think that sums up my personality. I love the reach, the push beyond my limits. The knowledge that I can press on a little farther.

This was a photocrawl with Anne, Greg and Daphne. It was cold and cheery and lovely to hang out. Again I loved how even though we all walked together, we all have totally and completely different viewpoints. Our eyes would gravitate toward different angles, different objects, different framing…love that there is room for everyone, everyone's views and talents. It makes me really excited.
My film is still being developed and even though I had three cameras (& a fourth in my backpack whose battery died) one of my rolls of film and I had a bit of a disagreement and unfortunately the film won. The other rolls came from the holga…so it is anyone's guess what will happen there.

carousel & candy

Went to this amazing letterpress sale and was wondering around Dumbo with Anne when we happened upon Jane's carousel. My friend Saralee has been working on the restoration, but seeing the piece in person was probably the hidden gem of the day. Anne and I were quite excited about the whole thing.
My film is still being developed but I have these polaroids to share…

feeling like fall

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

I am not the keeper. I don't have any collections really, my mom on the other hand…is a pack rat. In this instance I was glad, because trixie is sniffing out my samsonite suitcase I had as a child. I traveled tons. My parents divorced when I was only one and I started flying back and forth on my own when I was probably six or seven, seasoned traveler by ten. But not only did she have my suitcase, but my brownie (girl scouts was from age 6 to 8) uniform. It is so little…I might fit me as a shirt, and I am glad to have it. I don’t really remember brownies…the cookies, I remember the cookies. What do you remember about brownies?

water study & photocrawl

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

Anne & I were thinking of expanding our photoday into a photocrawl. In the same vein as the sketchcrawl, but not all day long (since mid-day can be bad light). We'd meet up at a location and then photograph for a couple of hours…then eat and chat. Allow ourselves to be braver by photographing together.

Our plan is Coney Island on October 21.
Meet early and photograph until lunch.
Then we can go out again and photograph or call it a day.
If you want to play along send me an email…wendyATgreengirlartDOTcom.
Coney Island's season ends in October…so it should be slightly ghost town.
Any kind of camera - digital, polaroid, SLR, point & shoot…whatever you love best.

On another separate note…my water study…I sort of liked doing the study…do other artists do color studies, or layout studies?

gargoyle…

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

This little guy is chained because people threaten to walk off with him (well actually send him out on vacation I think - ala the garden gnome)…but he can't fly at night.
Or maybe he has the key…thats right he has the key.

sweet scent of pie…

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

After working over the weekend I was in need of a treat. So I made a pie. I don't think I have made pie in years. I love making sweet things. It is very grounding for me. And I don't do it enough for my brain, but when I do I love it. I love having a pie in my fridge! I used a recipe recommended by Alicia who made the pie recently and channeled mav for my food pictures. I had extra, since my pie was smaller than it was supposed to be.  So we had little baby pies.  That way the Boy and I could eat it right away! Really really delicious.

I started one of my assignments.
