that ice cream jingle…

I am going to start posting more than just music underground.
I have been photographing my favorite things about the city.
One of many favorites is a late night run for ice cream.  I love that; the warm air brings that jingle.  The jingle from childhood that sends us out the sidewalk in our sleep clothes.
I only remember ice cream coming during the day though, never late night.

Where you live do you have ice cream trucks?
Does that jingle bring about memories of childhood?

hanttula is amazing - can't stop the laughter.

Your photography continually amazes me; I’ve been snapping pix for years, but each time you post something you make me realize the type of photos I wish I was capturing. THANK YOU!
    {thanks, also, for the nice link!}

    hi wendy
love this photo. i’m so excited to hear that you will be sharing photos of your favorite things about the city. great! we have yet to spot an ice cream truck here in durham, nc although we had one that would regularly drive down our street in denver, co. take care, shari

hey wendy…. i love your b/w photos. they are always so moody….

didn’t really have icecream trucks when i was a kid - but usually in the summer they ride around this hood…. what i do remember is loving “big sticks” that was my favorite popciscle from any place!!

great photo! Of course you know, being a California girl, I grew up around tons of ice cream trucks. Since living in Portland I’ve only seen one! (Darn Portland Vegans with their rain). I love the Mexican men in Cali that push around carts with icecream in a bucket on one side and boiled corn on the other!

Ice cream! Beautiful photo. Love the contrast. I used to live beside the hub of all Brooklyn ice cream trucks (where their owners would park them at night, and get them in the morning). That jingle! It never stopped! It drove me batty!!

hanttula - ah shucks! thank you - super high speed film, totally recommend it!

shari - good luck looking for the ice cream truck!

lisa - high speed film is my secret - makes the photos grainy and dark.
next time the truck comes by your hood you must go and get that big stick!

maria - I feel like there are more on the east coast - maybe the hot humid summers…

abby - I adore the push carts with the little bell. They were always at the park when I played soccer - what a great memory rush

maditi - never can have bad consequences when it comes to ice cream!

anne - yeah! for more trucks. do you ever hear them, but then can’t find them?

johanna - bad jingle!! bad jingle!

jon - I think it is always a good time for ice cream!

louise - glad to bring back the memories!!

When we lived in Queens my husband and I used to joke that after 10pm the ice cream truck turned into the crack truck. It used to piss me off when it the “Mr Softee” song woke me up at 2am (”damn noisy drug dealers!”) but now that it’s getting warmer here in Portland I find myself missing the stupid jingle.

aw yes, i remember it well. our’s usually played some kind of little melody and you could hear it from streets away.

I like the ice cream trucks too. It’s so odd that they have corners and just hang out all day.
