home

Home and houses have been swirling around in my brain lately.
Soon our apartment will be our little boy's home.
For the rest of his life the first thought of home will be most likely the one the Boy and I create for him.
That's pretty powerful stuff & sort of unbelievable.

Because of those thoughts and musings I have been drawing houses a lot.
{the background of the previous word}
And I came up with a quilt idea that I have convinced my nana and my baby's nana to make for me.
{Inspired by Steph's soft houses & her quilt & janet bell's paintings}

The sketches:

For fun I painted the sketch that the Boy liked the best.

I have a bit of a compulsion when it comes to painting the edges of my paintings.
Even to the point of finishing up an extra piece of blue and a rooftop that really no one is ever going to see.

    Oh wow, thanks so much for mentioning Stephanie’s work. I am so, so happy to have discovered it through you. Those stuffed houses are amazing. (And I am totally neurotic/obsessed about a painting’s edges. Whenever I go to galleries and look at paintings, the first thing I do is peer around at the edges.) Looking forward to seeing your quilt!

    Hey you
    Thank you so much for linking to my website! Very kind of you and honoured. Lovely thoughts on home building. I’m liking this work of yours a lot. I am obsessed with images of houses and the home and nest building, must be why I paint them. I also paint the edges o my canvases, it is one thing my customers love. Always a nightmare painting the bottom side though if it is on an easel. You have to then remix the colours at the very end of the painting, quite difficult. I have forgotten a few times in the past too only to be told by them a lot later on. I tell them its a special one!!!! :)

    amy - i love that you inspect the edges when you see people’s work.
    {do you do it if you are at someone’s house too??}

    anne - it’ll be fun to see how the quilt gets interpreted

    lisa s - thanks friend!

    johanna - i’ve always marveled at your paintings! i can’t wait to meet him to.

    monica - glad you think so.

    star - wow thank you very much.

    janet - very honored that you stopped by, love your work!! {funny how the customers don’t tell you about the side until much later!}

    Wendy - happy (belated) New Year!!! I’m loving the house paintings - and how genius you are to paint over the edges!!!
    Not long to go now - less than 3 months and your little man arrives. Oh, how thrilled I am for you all. It’s so incredibly rewarding and loving and hard and happy and fulfilling. I know you are going to eat it up!

    big hugs,
    claire and Isla
