word 11 of 30

hirsute {approx 4" x 3"}
acrylic on board

stephaine lynn gave me this word…her boy's favorite word.

hir·sute  (hûrst, hîr-, hr-st)
covered with hair; hairy.

The first thing I thought of for this word was a bear…but my first sketches were of a polar bear. Like the polar bear in the fairy tale east of the sun, west of the moon {you can see some great polar bears here…with lights no less!}

after the dancing bear I did for the circus series it was settled in my mind that I would do a circus bear instead.

don't forget to tell all your friends about the sweets party on june 11th!

***update: I am looking for someone that might still have an old selvedge issue. I can't seem to find mine. It is issue 12, the photo on the cover is twins in front of patterned wallpaper. If you have it and could scan some images that would be fantastic. you can email me at greengirlart@gmail.com. thanks***

    Covered with hair, hairy..that’s so funny. Love the word, love the painting. He looks so crabby, and yet he has that circus suit on…poor guy.

  2. anne Says:

    I agree with johanna, he really does look cranky. sort of like a little boy forced to wear a suit for a formal event. then again maybe he LIKES the pink collar and is telling the naysayers to be quiet…either way I love him :)

  3. shari Says:

    i learned a new word today. great circus bear. xo

  4. Briana Says:

    I think he is terribly fetching in his collar. It’s so non-sequitur. I love it.

  5. wendy Says:

    johanna - the circus suit is his bane…but he does love the roaring

    anne - I like your theory! glad he makes you smile

    shari - I learned a new word too!!

    briana - he is pleased as punch that you think he is fetching…he might even reconsider his feelings about the ruffles.

    i like the pink tutu-esque thing - it’s so funny as he’s trying to be so mean.
